What is chordee, penile torsion, and penile angulation?

• Chordee: When the penis is curved downward, often (but not always), associated with hypospadias as well as an incomplete foreskin
• Penile torsion: When the penis is twisted
• Penile angulation: When the penis is bent to the side

Symptoms include curvature or a twist of the penis in different directions.

What are the causes and risk factors of chordee, penile torsion or penile angulation?

These conditions are something a child is born with. It is unknown why they occur.

How is chordee, penile torsion or penile angulation diagnosed?

These conditions are diagnosed with a physical exam.

What are the treatment options for chordee, penile torsion or penile angulation?

If the degree of curvature or twist or angulation is mild, often no treatment is necessary. However, if the degree is significant, a minor outpatient surgery is indicated, typically with a circumcision done under general anesthesia.
