Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program
The mission of the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at Weill Cornell Medicine is to provide state-of-the-art transplant and cell therapies for life-threatening diseases of the blood and bone marrow, as well as to investigate new applications of cellular therapy products. A major goal of our Program is to extend access to care to our diverse New York patient population in a comfortable environment.
Based at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in the nation, we take a multidisciplinary approach to care for patients with blood cancers who need stem cell transplants or cellular therapies. Our collaboration with world-renowned experts in leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma facilitates world-class clinical care. Additionally, cellular therapies for solid tumors are in development. We work in close collaboration with an entire team to support our patients, including specialized nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, laboratory scientists, and physicians from other disciplines. This enables us to provide personalized care plans for each patient.
We recognize that patients and families are coping with life-threatening illnesses, and sensitivity and compassion are a priority for our team. We view each patient as an individual, and our approach ensures that each treatment regimen is narrowly tailored to meet the unique needs of our patients and their families before, during and after their treatment.
As one of New York’s premier healthcare institutions, Weill Cornell Medicine is at the forefront of scientific research and clinical trials, enabling us to provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment protocols, including the latest breakthroughs in medicine.
Our Team and Treatments
Our team of internationally-recognized bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy specialists is known for investigating novel strategies to improve transplantation and cellular therapies for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
We perform a variety of advanced therapies designed to improve both the survival of patients, as well as their quality of life, including:
- Allogeneic stem cell transplants using stem cells collected from a donor. All donor types are considered as potential stem cell sources including matched or mismatched adult donors (family members or unrelated volunteers) or cord blood collected from the placenta and umbilical cord of a healthy newborn baby.
-
Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell products for the treatment of lymphoma, myeloma, and some B-cell leukemias.
-
Autologous stem cell transplants using blood-forming stem cells collected from the patient’s blood.
-
Tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) is a cellular immunotherapy designed to target cancer cells by leveraging the body’s immune system and specialized cells called T-lymphocytes. In collaboration with colleagues in the Weill Cornell Medicine Cutaneous Oncology and Melanoma Program, we offer this therapy to patients with melanoma. Additional studies are also underway for different disease areas.
Clinical Trials
At Weill Cornell Medicine, we also offer access to care through a variety of clinical trials aimed to improve outcomes and offer new treatment options to our patients. As active members of the international cancer research community, our specialists also collaborate with other research centers to offer patients the most promising treatments available. Second Opinions
In consultation with your referring physician, we are always available to offer a second opinion with one of our specialists. We frequently work with cancer doctors outside of New York City to help provide expert care. Whether acting as your primary oncologist, working in tandem with your oncologist or primary physician, overseeing your participation in a clinical trial or providing a second opinion, we are dedicated to helping all patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
