Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Over three million laboratory tests are performed annually using state-of-the-art facilities and techniques such as robotic automation. Weill Cornell Medicine's New York City-based Pathology provides microscopic examinations of tissue samples, blood tests, drug monitoring, viral studies, body fluid analyses, and other tests, with a wide range of subspecialty areas. The specialties include hematopathology, breast pathology, dermatopathology, cytopathology and aspiration biopsy, renal pathology, special hematology and coagulation tests, molecular pathology, and perinatal and pediatric pathology.

More than sixty MD and PhD scientists staff the pathology laboratories. All are full-time, board-certified faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College with expertise in a wide range of pathology subspecialties. Building on their expertise, we have developed a nation-wide diagnostic and patient management consultation service.

What Our Patients Are Saying

M. Elijah Yawada Gamble

"As a person who is always overly-cautious, I appreciate Altorki’s style of discussing my test results. I recently had a cancerous tumor removed from my chest, which was a scary endeavor, because I never had surgery before. Since, our conversations have been candid, honest, and assuring. Dr. Altorki is not short on confidence, which also made me feel empowered and informed."

"Very professional and also explains everything in a way that is digestible so that we were aligned throughout the pre-op and then surgery. 1st class Doc."

Talking about Jeffrey L. Port, M.D.

"I brought in my dad for a heart procedure and from start to finish it couldn’t have been better, from the receptionist to all Dr Ports medical staff and team, they were absolutely fabulous and professional. Dr Port besides being top in his field, made me and my Dad feel as if he was his only patient, can’t say enough good things about this visit, wish all doctor experiences were like this. Thanks to All"
