Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Over three million laboratory tests are performed annually using state-of-the-art facilities and techniques such as robotic automation. Weill Cornell Medicine's New York City-based Pathology provides microscopic examinations of tissue samples, blood tests, drug monitoring, viral studies, body fluid analyses, and other tests, with a wide range of subspecialty areas. The specialties include hematopathology, breast pathology, dermatopathology, cytopathology and aspiration biopsy, renal pathology, special hematology and coagulation tests, molecular pathology, and perinatal and pediatric pathology.

More than sixty MD and PhD scientists staff the pathology laboratories. All are full-time, board-certified faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College with expertise in a wide range of pathology subspecialties. Building on their expertise, we have developed a nation-wide diagnostic and patient management consultation service.

What Our Patients Are Saying

Susan Fisher
Talking about Brendon Stiles, M.D.

"Kind, caring, patient. Takes his time. Unlike other doctors, Dr. Stiles came in the examination room and sat down, eye to eye with me. This simple gesture put me at ease and "leveled the playing field." His use of language was easy for me to understand and was non-threatening. His staff was also outstanding and kind. Dr. Stiles embodies everything one would want in a doctor. Reminds me of doctors who made house calls. I recommend his without reservation."

Thomas Kechejian

"Dr. Altorti has been my Dr. for almost 18 yrs. he was has performed two major Lung surgeries on me. I have just had my annual CT and had an appt. on Zoom. It was good news. I have had four surgeries at N.Y. Presbyterian and each time I have asked Dr. Altorki's staff to recommend surgeons in the facility. My other surgeries were also successful. I have recommended Dr. Altorki to a few people that needed Lung surgery and were very thankful."

At conclusion of the test, Dr. Shostak explained the results in great detail and followed up with our pulmonologist as well as a personal phone call the next day to us."
