Expert, Compassionate Imaging for Children and Adolescents
At Weill Cornell Medicine, our compassionate physicians at the Division of Pediatric Radiology provide expert care and diagnostic image processing for children.
There are many conditions that can affect children and adolescents, or impede their quality of life. We understand that achieving optimal health is essential for growth and development, and that living with uncertainty can be challenging.
We are here to help children, adolescents and their families achieve the best possible quality of life with expert imaging that provides useful diagnostic information for accurate and compassionate care.
Comprehensive Care for Children and Adolescents
Our radiologists have a certificate of added qualification in pediatric radiology and are experts in every aspect of pediatric imaging. At Weill Cornell Medicine, our team uses the latest technology to capture the highest quality diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure and maximizing comfort. The images are highly useful for diagnosing specific conditions to promote the best possible treatment.
Our team of highly trained and experienced radiologists will partner with your pediatrician to determine the best approach for each individual patient, based on their specific condition, overall health, lifelong wellness goals and other factors.
Child Life Specialists Enhance Comfort
A certified child life specialist (CCLS) is a specially trained professional with an expertise in child development. Through the use of education, play, therapeutic and self-expression activities, they help children feel comfortable, safe and relaxed throughout the entire outpatient medical experience.
Our child life specialists are integral members of our pediatric radiology team at Weill Cornell Medicine, helping young patients and their families learn about the imaging procedure using age-appropriate educational programs and support.
MRIamaHero!
In collaboration with Siemens Healthcare, Weill Cornell Imaging at NewYork-Presbyterian created MRIamahero!. The goal of this program is to reduce the need for sedation with innovation, fun and education.
Designed for patients between four and 15 years old, MRIamahero! reduces fear while also promoting comfort and fun.
MRIamahero! is the ultimate superhero experience. The program begins by teaching children what an MRI machine looks like, sounds like and how it works. Our child life specialists are available to take our young patients through every step of the program, from pre-assessments, to completing their imaging, supporting our young patients and their families.
On the day of the MRI, the program offers additional fun surprises, including a superhero gown and plush toy. Once the exam is completed, the child is given their badge of honor — a real superhero cape!
If one of your "heroes" requires medical imaging and could benefit from this program, please contact our scheduling center at (212) 746-6000 and ask about MRIamahero!.
