We provide expert, compassionate care as you consider pregnancy, try to conceive (get pregnant) and enjoy your entire pregnancy. We also care for you during childbirth and as you recover during your fourth trimester. We prioritize your long-term health with personalized and multidisciplinary care.

Why Choose Weill Cornell Medicine?

Individualized, long-term care: Weill Cornell Medicine is one of the leading academic medical centers in the country, with nationally ranked programs in cardiology as well as obstetrics and gynecology. Our anesthesiology division has received the designation as a Center of Excellence for obstetric anesthesia care.

In addition to renowned clinical expertise, our Obstetric Cardiology Program has built a reputation for a compassionate and supportive environment where patients feel empowered with information and knowledge.

As a patient at our program, you will be assigned a patient coordinate who will:

● Schedule any required tests and appointments with each physician on their care team
● Assist with acquiring medical records
● Provide any additional support needed

Multidisciplinary care from leading experts: When you choose Weill Cornell Medicine, you have access to a network of doctors and specialists. The Obstetric Cardiology Program includes specialists in maternal-fetal medicine (high-risk pregnancy) and cardiology (heart health).

As our patient, you will also have access to Weill Cornell Medicine pediatric cardiologists, social workers, registered dietitians, integrative health and wellness specialists and other specialists.

Our physicians are also dedicated to researching and developing innovative and superior ways to treat heart disease and promote heart health during pregnancy. Best practices are implemented into practice to ensure patients receive care rooted in the latest scientific discoveries. When appropriate, patients may also have the option to participate in clinical trials, which provide access to cutting-edge therapies that may not be available elsewhere.

Weill Cornell Medicine partners with NewYork-Presbyterian, one of the top hospital systems in New York City and the U.S.

Conditions We Treat

Our Obstetric Cardiology Program is passionate about helping you enjoy the healthiest pregnancy possible. Our doctors are highly trained and can provide expert care for every heart condition. All monitoring, medications and procedures used are safe during pregnancy and while you breastfeed your baby.

Pre-pregnancy counseling: If you have a pre-existing heart condition, we are here to help you understand your cardiovascular health, how to prepare for becoming pregnant and how pregnancy will affect your heart health.

Cardiovascular care during pregnancy: Our team helps pregnant patients with:

● Congenital cardiac defects or disease
● Acquired cardiac disease, such as rheumatic heart disease or pulmonary hypertension
● Arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat)
● Peripartum cardiomyopathy (heart muscle weakness that begins about a month before childbirth and lasts about five months afterward)
● Cardiac disease secondary to other medical conditions, such as lupus or diabetes
● Connective tissue disorders, including Marfan Syndrome

Fourth trimester cardiovascular care: Our team will also care for you after you give birth by monitoring your heart health closely as your body recovers from pregnancy and childbirth.

If you develop a heart condition during pregnancy, we will care for you during this time. We will develop a long-term plan to reduce your risk of heart disease with frequent care, treatments and lifestyle changes.
