PROSE: Prosthetic Replacement of the Ocular Surface Ecosystem

The Israel Englander Department of Ophthalmology is one of only eleven sites in the United States that offers BostonSight® PROSE (prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem) in collaboration with Boston Foundation for Sight. BostonSight® PROSE is a treatment to restore the vision of patients with complex corneal disease, enabling them to reclaim their lives.

Orthoptic Services

The orthoptic service at the Israel Englander Department of Ophthalmology specializes in the treatment of patients with disorders of the visual system with an emphasis on binocular vision and eye movements. An orthoptist performs diagnostic tests and measurements on both pediatric and adult patients with disorders of binocular vision visual field defects, and other eye disorders.

Comprehensive/General Ophthalmology Services

The Comprehensive Ophthalmology service offers primary eye care including medical and surgical management for all types of conditions of the eye and surrounding structures - both routine and urgent. Our general evaluations screen and treat a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. Routine annual eye and vision exams, prescriptions for eyeglasses, and referrals for contact lens fittings are also offered. Patients who may require subspecialty ophthalmologic care are often referred after evaluation.

Pituitary and Anterior Skull Base Surgery

Skull base surgery — procedures performed not within in the brain but at the skull base behind the nose – has been transformed over the last decade, with minimally invasive techniques replacing open surgery in many cases. Top surgeons can now remove unimaginably large tumors through the nostrils instead of through incisions, using the natural openings of the face and manipulating tiny endoscopes to navigate to the lesions.

Pediatric Neurosurgery

Pediatric Neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medicine takes a multidisciplinary approach that focuses on the whole child and offers them the best opportunity to enjoy a normal transition from child to adult. The program is nationally recognized for its leadership in the treatment of pediatric brain tumors, congenital malformations, craniofacial disorders, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, vascular abnormalities, and traumatic injuries.
