Types of Neurosurgery

• Brain tumor surgery. Surgeons remove cancer and other abnormal growths through our Neuro-Oncology Program. These procedures stop disease progression. They also bring relief from symptoms affecting vision, thinking, hearing and more.
• Cerebrovascular surgery. Neurosurgeons correct blood vessels that are leaking, narrow, tangled or have other issues. These surgeries help you recover from or avoid conditions, such as stroke or problems that cause severe pain.
• Deep brain stimulation. Through our Neuromodulation Program, electrodes placed on the brain send small electrical signals to the parts of the brain that manage mood, pain, movement and more. This reduces symptoms and brings relief of several conditions, such as Parkinson’s and essential tremor.
• Epilepsy surgery. The neurosurgeon finds and removes the source of seizures. Through our Laser Surgery Program, laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) corrects these issues without damaging nearby healthy tissue.
• Interventional neuroradiology. Guided by three-dimensional imaging, the surgeon treats aneurysms, strokes and other conditions with endoscopic techniques. These surgeries use small incisions, resulting in faster recovery and shorter hospitalization.
• Pituitary and anterior skull base surgery. Our expert surgeons remove benign and cancerous tumors without a single incision. Instead, they operate through the nostrils. In some cases, this is the only possible treatment for pituitary tumors.
• Spine surgery. Surgeons perform open surgery or advanced minimally invasive techniques for simple and complex cases of scoliosis and other spinal deformities.
• Stereotactic radiosurgery. Our neurosurgery team works across departments to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to your care. Once the tumor or other problem area is identified with three-dimensional imaging, the radiation oncologist focuses a beam of radiation on the area. This radiation treats abnormal cells with minimal effect on healthy nearby tissue.
