Vein care at Weill Cornell Medicine focuses on the treatment of all venous conditions. The veins are flexible tubes that return blood back to the heart for oxygenation. Various conditions can affect the veins, causing them to weaken, enlarge or operate inefficiently.

Our vascular surgeons are highly trained experts who compassionately diagnose and treat venous disease. We provide personalized and specialized care within a leading academic medical center. We collaborate with you to determine the best treatment option to improve your comfort, vein health and veins’ cosmetic appearance.

Personalized Treatment for All Vein Conditions

Using the most advanced technology available, our team carefully evaluates each patient to diagnose your condition and develop a treatment plan to help you achieve the best possible long-term results.

Our team determines the most appropriate treatment plan based on your unique condition, lifestyle, medical history and health goals. The Weill Cornell Medicine Comprehensive Vein Program has the expertise to treat all venous conditions, including:

●      May-Thurner syndrome: A condition that occurs when the left iliac vein (located in the abdomen) is compressed (pressed down).

●      Deep vein thrombosis: Also called “DVT,” deep vein thrombosis is a serious condition that occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually the leg. The clots can travel through the body and block blood flow in the lungs.

●      Spider veins, varicose veins and other cosmetic conditions: Veins near the surface of the skin can become enlarged, twisted or damaged. They can appear bulging. They can also darken or change color to become more blue, purple or red. For some, these can be a cosmetic concern. For others, they can cause discomfort or pain.

Our vascular and endovascular surgeons are key members of the Weill Cornell Medicine Vascular Anomaly Center, providing comprehensive and compassionate care for all vascular anomalies, including birthmarks.

Personalized Vein Care

Your initial appointment for comprehensive vein care will include a detailed evaluation of your symptoms, lifestyle and personal and family history. In addition to a physical exam, our experienced technologists will study your deep and superficial (skin surface) venous system using the most advanced technology.

Using all this information, you and your doctor will develop a personalized and specific treatment plan that helps you achieve your health and cosmetic goals. We will meet with you after your procedure to ensure the best possible recovery and well-being.

Leaders in Minimally Invasive Vein Treatments

Our surgeons are leaders in the most advanced surgical treatment options for all vein conditions. The majority of our patients receive minimally invasive treatment, which requires only small incisions (cuts). This speeds recovery and improves overall cosmetic results.

Weill Cornell Medicine’s world-class surgeons are at the forefront of minimally invasive therapies, including microphlebectomy, thermal ablation and sclerotherapy.
