Complex Vascular Surgical Treatments
At Weill Cornell Medicine, our vascular and endovascular surgeons are nationally recognized leaders in this specialty. They have specific expertise in treating complex vascular conditions, including rare conditions or conditions that other surgeons are not trained to treat.
Leading Surgeons, Compassionate Care
Using the most advanced technology available, our team carefully evaluates each patient to understand your specific condition and develop a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve the best possible health.
Our team determines the most appropriate treatment plan based on your medical history and health goals. Your plan may include medicines, lifestyle changes and, if appropriate, surgery.
Complex Vascular Surgical Treatments
Our team provides the most advanced treatments, including minimally invasive options, for all complex vascular conditions, including:
Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS): This condition occurs when nerves or blood vessels are compressed by the rib, collarbone or neck muscles. A small percentage of patients with TOS have vascular TOS. Our team treats these cases by angioplasty (opening up the compressed (pressed down) vessels.
Pelvic congestion syndrome and ovarian reflux: This condition causes pain in the pelvis. Doctors do not know the exact cause of this condition, but it is related to vein development in the pelvic region. Ovarian reflux occurs when the ovarian vein dilates (opens) but does not close properly. This may cause blood to pool (accumulate or gather) in the pelvis, causing pain and a feeling of heaviness.
These conditions are treated with embolization procedures to block blood flow to the damaged veins, causing them to shrink.
Nutcracker syndrome: This is a rare vein condition that occurs when the left renal (kidney) vein is compressed. Our team treats this condition by placing a stent (thin tube) to open and support the vein.
IVC filter placement and retrieval: The inferior vena cava (IVC) is the large vein that carries blood from the lower half of the body back to the heart. IVC filters are metal devices that prevent or manage pulmonary embolisms or deep vein thrombosis.
Our team is highly skilled at placing IVC filters into the body, as well as removing them when appropriate.
