Vaginoplasty* surgery is a procedure that involves the creation of the vulva in adults, also known as outer female genital structures with or without a vaginal canal.
Vulvovaginoplasty, also known as “full depth” vaginoplasty, is a procedure in which the outer genital structures, including the labia, clitoral hood, clitoris, and urethral opening, are created with a vaginal canal. Vaginoplasty, with the creation of a vaginal canal, requires vaginal dilation. It requires a combination of inpatient hospital stay and local outpatient stay near the hospital for typically 7 days after surgery.
Vulvoplasty, also known as “zero depth” vaginoplasty, is a procedure in which the outer genital structures, including the labia, clitoral hood, clitoris, urethral opening and vaginal dimple, are created in adults without a vaginal canal. Vulvoplasty requires an inpatient hospital stay for typically 4 days after the surgery.
