Ear Conditions

Weill Cornell Medicine pediatric otolaryngologists diagnose and treat a wide range of ear conditions in children and infants. Common problems in this age group include recurrent ear infections and accumulation of middle ear fluid that can cause discomfort and auditory issues. Abnormalities of the ear affect the critical hearing function in this population, which may lead to impaired linguistic and social development.

While universal newborn hearing screening allows for early diagnosis of babies with hearing loss across the U.S., we offer advanced screening tests including auditory brain stem response testing for babies that do not pass the universal examination. Our pediatric audiologists provide in-office hearing evaluation and rehabilitation options, and also fit, dispense and maintain hearing aids for our patients. In addition, our pediatric surgeons frequently perform treatments including ear tube placement, tympanic membrane repair and cochlear implantation. These capabilities allow us to provide accurate diagnoses and quickly initiate multidisciplinary care for our pediatric patients with hearing loss.
