Anesthesiology Research

The Department of Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell is committed to the investigation of important scientific and clinical questions that elucidate the mechanism of anesthetic drugs, help in the development of new drugs that are more safe and effective, and lead to new knowledge about the mechanisms and treatment for problems that patients face in the perioperative period. We are also strongly committed to the development and training of the next generation of laboratory researchers and clinician-scientists. Research at Weill Cornell Medicine is richly enhanced by its existence within a tri-institutional environment that also includes Rockefeller University and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the Department of Anesthesiology takes full advantage of this unique opportunity: most of our principal investigators collaborate with labs and investigators at these world-class institutions.The research mission of the Department of Anesthesiology is spread across three divisions. The Basic Science division includes principal investigators working out of three major laboratory spaces at Weill Cornell Medicine, and other principal investigators working collaboratively in laboratories at Rockefeller University and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The Clinical Research division includes principal investigators conducting a range of grant-funded, industry-funded, and departmentally-funded multi-institutional and single-institutional trials. The Center for Perioperative Outcomes conducts clinical and informatics studies using both large-scale population databases and data derived from local Weill Cornell data systems.
