At the Weill Cornell Medicine Division of Interventional Radiology, we are internationally recognized for our expert, compassionate care to our patients. We provide the highest level of service, starting with the initial visit through follow-up and recovery.
Radiology is the medical specialty focusing on visualizing and capturing images of the body to diagnose and understand illnesses. Interventional radiology (IR) is a newer medical specialty that uses image-guided, minimally invasive procedures to both visualize and treat illnesses.
Benefits of Interventional Radiology Procedures
Using advanced medical imaging (including x-rays and MRIs, interventional radiologists can treat conditions throughout the body with thin tubes that are guided to the exact area needing to be examined or treated. These minimally invasive procedures require a very small incision (cut), so there is a lower risk of complications, less blood loss and a shorter recovery time.
National Leaders in Screening and Early Detection
Our highly trained interventional radiologists are the first in the region to be able to offer care that encompasses screening, diagnosis, treatment and recovery care for cancer and other diseases. All procedures are performed with leading diagnostic and medical imaging technology, which enhances visualization of the body and promotes better outcomes.
All of our doctors are highly accomplished physicians who prioritize patient care and comfort. Many are leaders in their fields or are the nation’s top expert in their subspecialty. Our doctors are invested in ensuring your optimal results and are involved from initial diagnosis through the minimally invasive treatments.
Guided by the Latest Research
Beyond treating our patients, our physicians are also leading research to improve IR care and innovate the field. As a scientifically based, academic institution, we are at the forefront of the latest treatments.
Weill Cornell Medicine is a leader in interventional radiology research, as well as screening and early detection. We are committed to responsible, high-quality screening practices that are based on the most up-to-date research and information developed by professional organizations, such as the American College of Radiology, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and the Society of Interventional Radiology.
As our patient, you can choose to participate in one of our clinical trials to receive the most current treatments. If your doctor believes that you may qualify for one of the studies being conducted at our department, your doctor will discuss this as a treatment option. By joining a clinical trial, you help advance the field of interventional radiology.
