Orchiectomy is the surgical removal of the testes in adults through a small incision along the scrotum. It eliminates the need for androgen (testosterone) suppression and optimizes the effects of estrogen. Orchiectomy is permanent and irreversible, and it ends the ability to be a biological parent without prior fertility preservation. This is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you can go home the same day. Undergoing an orchiectomy does not typically interfere with the possibility of having future vaginoplasty.
Surgery requirements*:
- 18+ years old
- World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) guidelines must be met
- Must have a support person to bring you home from the hospital
*Further details regarding surgical requirements will be discussed with your provider during your initial consultation appointment.
