About Susan A. Gauthier, D.O., MPH
Dr. Susan Gauthier is Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she also serves as Director of Clinical Research at the Judith Jaffe Multiple Sclerosis Center. She leads a translational research program focused on uncovering the biological mechanisms of multiple sclerosis (MS) using advanced quantitative neuroimaging. Her work has helped develop imaging biomarkers to track inflammation, demyelination, and clinical disability in MS.
Dr. Gauthier completed her undergraduate studies at the University at Buffalo and earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. After completing neurology residency and chief residency at Boston University Medical Center, she was awarded a three-year Clinical Trial Training Fellowship from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Since joining Weill Cornell in 2007, she has built the MS Center’s research infrastructure and forged a strong collaboration with the Department of Radiology. She has served as principal or co-principal investigator on multiple NIH and NMSS funded projects, published widely in neurology and imaging journals, and co-authored several consensus statements on translating imaging into clinical MS care. Dr. Gauthier serves on the Steering and Executive Committees of the North American Imaging in Multiple Sclerosis (NAIMS) Cooperative and on numerous NIH and NMSS review panels. A dedicated mentor, she has trained students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty, many of whom have gone on to academic and clinical leadership. Through her roles in clinical care, research, and education, she remains committed to advancing precision medicine for people living with MS.
