About Ashish Saxena, M.D., Ph.D.
I am a medical oncologist who specializes in cancers of the lung and thymus. I work closely with our multidisciplinary team of expert thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, palliative care/pain management specialists, and nutritionists to provide comprehensive care for our patients. I view each patient and their disease as unique and work to manage their treatment accordingly, always keeping their goals in mind. In order to provide new hopes for the future of lung cancer treatment, our division is also involved in clinical research focusing on precision medicine, immunotherapy, and novel therapeutics as well as laboratory research to better understand this disease.
Dr. Saxena is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Physician at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He graduated from the Medical Scientist Training Program at Stony Brook University, receiving his MD and a PhD in Genetics. Following this he completed his residency in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical College-New York-Presbyterian Hospital. After fellowship Dr. Saxena worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Sloan Kettering Institute of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where his research focused on the study of exosomes. He returned to Weill Cornell Medical College in 2015 to join the faculty of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology in their Thoracic Oncology program.
Dr. Saxena's clinical and research interests have been in the study and management of different forms of lung cancer. He currently treats patients with non-small cell and small-cell lung cancers, mesothelioma, thymoma, and sarcomas of the lung. He is involved in both clinical and laboratory research, collaborating with physicians and scientists at Weill Cornell as well as other institutions.
