Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States and worldwide. Fortunately, when risk factors are identified early, they can be addressed promptly, making management, treatment, and prevention more effective. Early intervention can also help reduce complications and promote long-term cardiac health.
At Weill Cornell Medicine’s Preventive Cardiology program, our mission is to prevent cardiovascular disease in individuals at high risk. Our expert preventive cardiologists take the time to understand each patient’s unique history and needs to create a targeted treatment plan to reduce the likelihood of heart attack, stroke, bypass surgery, or angioplasty.
Individuals with any of the following may be at an increased risk for heart disease or rapid progression of heart disease. If you have any of these characteristics, you will benefit from an evaluation by our preventive cardiology team.
All of the cardiologists on our team have Advanced Lipid Board Certification (ABCL). If you are at high-risk for cardiovascular disease, our cardiologists first work to understand your cardiac health and individual needs. As a patient you will receive an in-depth cardiovascular evaluation (including a full medical history and examination of lifestyle habits), an individualized lipid analysis, biomarker screening, and advanced cardiac imaging.
Using the cardiovascular assessment, laboratory studies, and advanced cardiac imaging, your cardiologist determines your risk for heart disease and provides a personalized treatment plan to slow the progression of current heart problems and prevent future problems. Your health plan may include diet and exercise suggestions, medication changes (for example, statin therapy or newer cholesterol-lowering therapies, called PCSK9 inhibitors), and/or suggestions for stress reduction.
Our program offers a broad range of services, including:
We encourage you to consider a preventive cardiovascular evaluation if you have any of the above characteristics or are concerned about your overall cardiovascular health.
