Personal Statement

I started college to pursue interests in the humanities, but have always had an interest in the quantitative sciences, as I believe the pursuit of knowledge requires an appreciation of the contributions of both. I have had the privilege of engaging my interests while serving others in various practice settings, including inner-city hospitals, community health centers, the Indian Health Service, and finally private practice in New York City, where I have treated patients from a large social spectrum.

Medicine is changing at a rate that was inconceivable when I was a resident. It is challenging to keep abreast of and to implement appropriately new developments, but it is appealing to deepen my understanding of the human body and mind. When I see patients, I am humbly reminded that the people who come to me have granted me privileged access to their lives, bodies, and thoughts. I hope I reciprocate with comparable respect. To the best of my ability, I offer what experience I have gained, not just during times of illness, but to help other people lead healthy, productive lives.
