Biographical Info

Dr. Flavio Gaudio is an Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Associate Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

He earned his medical degree from The State University of New York-Stony Brook School of Medicine and his undergraduate degree from Cornell University.

Dr. Gaudio has acquired extensive teaching, clinical, and research experience and has repeatedly won the commendation of his colleagues and patients for his approach to clinical care and his acumen as a teacher and supervisor of physician residents, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students.

Over a two-decade tenure at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medicine, he has won both a Patient Centered Care Award as well as the Jeanne and Herbert Siegel Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine. He views the practice of emergency medicine as a unique opportunity to provide compassionate care for patients at their time of potentially greatest need.  

Dr. Gaudio founded the first post-graduate residency program in emergency medicine for nurse practitioners in New York State. He continues to serve as the Medical Director of the Nurse Practitioner Program in Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Gaudio also co-founded the Wilderness and Environmental Medicine Program, which seeks to promote education and research related to medical care in remote or austere settings. He has authored practice guidelines on the treatment of heat illness as well as anaphylaxis at the national and international level. His field-based first responder and advanced first aid courses for senior medical students have been hailed as a highlight of medical school.

"Back from the Dead: the Joe Tiralosi Story." An extraordinary case of medical resuscitation led by Dr. Gaudio and featured in the Associated Press, CNN Prime Time, CNN Headline News, and CBS News. November 2009.
