About Eirini Apostolidou, M.D.
I was born and raised in a small town in Greece, Kozani. I received my medical degree from the School of Medicine- Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in Greece and graduated as a valedictorian. I completed my residency in internal medicine at Drexel College of Medicine/ Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and my cardiovascular fellowship at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. During my fellowship, I completed advanced training in echocardiography (Level III), and I have expertise in 3-Dimensional echocardiography, echo strain, peri-operative transesophageal echocardiography and can provide echocardiographic guidance for structural heart procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), percutaneous repair of mitral valve (Mitral Clip) and percutaneous closure of the left atrial appendage (Watchman). I hold a Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research from the School of Public Health, Brown University. I am board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and peripheral vascular imaging.
I worked as a non-invasive cardiologist and echocardiographer at the Cardiovascular Institute of Brown University for almost 5 years after completion of my training and contributed to both inpatient and outpatient cardiac services. Subsequently, I moved to Boston, where I was hired as an academic cardiologist and echocardiographer at Tufts Medical Center. I have a special interest in women’s’ cardiac health, where I devote the majority of my clinical time.
I have been an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Tufts School of Medicine and I am actively involved in the teaching of fellows, residents and medical students. I received the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2017 and 2020. My research focuses on cardiac imaging and novel techniques for treatment of valvular heart disease (transcatheter aortic valve replacement and mitral clip). My scientific work has been published in highly respected cardiology journals. I am a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography and I have been invited as an author in textbook chapters and educational material.
