A Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Derek Tate’s roots in medicine come from the Einstein-Montefiore Department of Family and Social Medicine in the Bronx, New York, which led him to train in family medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Having finished family medicine training, he pursued residency training in psychiatry at Long Island Jewish Medical Center-Zucker Hillside Hospital. He went on to complete public psychiatry fellowship training at Columbia Presbyterian/New York State Psychiatric Institute to further his interests in public psychiatry in the context of psychiatric treatment in urban primary care settings. Continuing to follow his interest in public psychiatry, Dr. Tate served as ACT team psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital Center. Dr. Tate currently does inpatient consult-liaison work at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, serving the communities he was raised with in his native borough, Queens, New York. He joins the Weill Cornell faculty after 15 years in private practice in midtown Manhattan, working with a broad, diverse, and eclectic patient population. Dr. Tate maintains a strong interest in psychodynamic and psychoanalytically informed treatment. He completed a two-year psychodynamic, psychotherapy certificate program at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training. Dr. Tate currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA, Becket, Massachusetts, where he is an alumnus.
