Personal Statement

Dr. Derek Tate is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist on the Telepsychiatry Service at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine. Using digital technology, he treats patients in emergency department and inpatient settings at multiple locations across the NewYork-Presbyterian enterprise. He also sees patients for psychodynamic and pharmacologic treatment through his faculty practice at the Weill Cornell Psychiatry Specialty Center in White Plains, New York. Dr. Tate believes that the best outcomes in treatment result from the trust and mutual respect that develop in the context of a collaborative therapeutic alliance, allowing a patient to speak freely without judgment or fear. Along with assessing symptoms, Dr. Tate strives to understand the patient’s inner emotional experience as a starting point towards successful treatment.
