Personal Statement

Thank you for choosing Weill Cornell Medicine for your ophthalmology needs. My colleagues and I aim to provide exemplary patient care and outstanding services to all patients. I am dedicated to helping patients and families better understand their eye disease. I also participate in ground-breaking research to further knowledge and contribute to the application of new discoveries for the advancement of eye care. I offer a variety of advanced surgical procedures including cataract surgery, premium and complex cataract surgery, laser eye surgery and corneal transplantation. I am an expert in dry eye and corneal diseases, and also see patients for many general eye care needs. I am proud to be a part of one of the best academic faculties in the country and I look forward to meeting with you.

A native of Canada, Ashley Brissette MD MSc FRCSC ABO received her medical training and masters degree from McGill University (Great Distinction) and Queen’s University in Canada. She then completed an advanced fellowship program in cornea, cataract & laser vision surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. She was then recruited to stay on as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Brissette has received many professional awards and research grants including the Millennial Eye One to Watch, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery Excellence Award, the Ontario Medical Association Achievement Award and the Physicians Services Incorporated Research Award Grant. 

In addition to her above accolades, Dr. Brissette is an active and accomplished researcher and lecturer. She has been invited to present on cataract surgery both across the USA and around the world. She has contributed extensively to the ophthalmic literature, authoring numerous peer-reviewed papers, textbook chapters, original articles, and scientific presentations. She is one of the premier researchers at Weill Cornell Ophthalmology.

Dr. Brissette currently serves as the director of the cornea and external disease resident education seminars at Weill Cornell Medicine. Her passion for education is also evident in her involvement in numerous medical missions around the world. She has performed pediatric, cataract, and cornea surgery with ORBIS and the Teaching Eye Surgery Foundation. She is dedicated to fighting blindness, and has helped others to build the skills needed to deliver quality eye care across the world. 

Dr. Brissette is double board certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgeons, International Society of Refractive Surgeons and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons among many other professional associations. 

She is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine and her practice interests include Cataract Surgery, Complex Cataract Surgery with Premium Lenses (multifocal, extended depth of focus, astigmatism correction), Laser Vision Correction (LASIK, PRK), Corneal Transplantation, as well as Dry Eye and General Eye Exams.
