Biography

Zachary Turnbull, MD, born and raised in Chicago, IL, moved to the East Coast in 2003 to pursue a degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University.  It was at Yale where his passion for mentoring and leading emerged – a composition of character that has been evolving ever since. His interest in preparing the next generation of academics was strengthened through his immersion into the mission of the Urban Improvement Corps, serving New Haven’s school children of all ages. At Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Turnbull’s appetite for mentoring led him to the underserved, inner city schools of NYC where he revamped and spearheaded an aggressive curriculum at the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) that would inspire and encourage high school students to earn their undergraduate degrees. As part of the medical education committee, he also played a pivotal role in the evolution of the Weill Cornell Medical College curriculum.

Dr. Turnbull knew that Weill Cornell’s anesthesiology program, spanning three of New York’s finest medical institutions, would maximize his clinical exposure, critical thinking, and provide top-notch training for becoming an anesthesiologist of the highest caliber. Dr. Turnbull is dedicated to patient safety; his current research interest includes patient outcomes, and is utilizing Weill Cornell’s Center for Perioperative Outcomes. His research has been accepted to numerous conferences including the Post Graduate Assembly, the New York Academy of Medicine, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology and the Association of University Anesthesiologists. Within the department, Dr. Turnbull has been committed to being an integral part of the department and has been vital in establishing the Residency Support Council, working to advance the resident experience, education, and wellbeing, as well as, enchancing technology in residency education and being integral in optimizing perioperative efficiency and compliance.
