About Yiwey Shieh, M.D.
Dr. Shieh is an academic general internist and cancer researcher. His goal as a clinician is to provide thoughtful, attentive care guided by his patients' individual priorities and scientific evidence. Beyond seeing patients, Dr. Shieh studies how to make cancer screening safer and more effective by tailoring it to an individual's risk profile. His research focuses on developing risk models and genetic tests that can be used to estimate breast cancer risk among the general population.
Dr. Yiwey Shieh graduated from Harvard College with a degree in Biology. He earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine/Primary Care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Following residency, Dr. Shieh completed a Primary Care Research Fellowship at UCSF, during which he received a Master of Advanced Studies degree in Clinical Research. Prior to moving to Weill Cornell, Dr. Shieh was a faculty member and attending physician in the UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Shieh maintains an active research program in cancer epidemiology. His research focuses on the use of risk models and genetic variants to individualize decisions around breast cancer screening and prevention. He holds dual appointments in the Departments of Population Health Sciences (Division of Epidemiology) and Medicine (Division of General Internal Medicine). He is also a member of the Meyer Cancer Center.
