About Vladislav Fomin, M.D.
I am privileged to care for patients across the full spectrum of liver disease at Weill Cornell Medicine. I completed my gastroenterology fellowship here, went on to train in transplant hepatology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and was thrilled to come back to join the Weill Cornell Medicine liver transplant team in 2026 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Liver disease often affects patients at some of the hardest moments of their lives, and I feel lucky to work in a field where I can offer real hope, from helping a patient stop drinking and watching their liver recover to guiding them through a successful transplant. I value the long-term relationships I build with my patients and their families, and I try to make sure every patient feels heard and understands their plan of care.
I have a special interest in alcohol-associated liver disease. Too often, patients with alcohol use disorder are treated in silos, with their liver disease managed in one place and their addiction in another, if it is treated at all. I am involved in a multidisciplinary alcohol and liver medicine clinic (Center for Alcohol and Liver Medicine) at Weill Cornell that brings hepatology and addiction care together in one visit. I enjoy teaching trainees and am proud to be part of a transplant team that works so well together.
Outside of medicine, I am a runner, a soccer player, a devoted Knicks fan, and an enthusiastic pour-over coffee brewer. I grew up in Queens in a Russian-speaking household and am excited to give back to the community that raised me.
Dr. Vladislav Fomin is a transplant hepatologist at the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, where he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine. He cares for patients with the full range of liver diseases, including alcohol-associated liver disease, fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, viral hepatitis, and liver cancer. He sees patients with cirrhosis, evaluates those who may need a liver transplant, and provides care before and after transplantation. He has a special interest in the care of patients with alcohol-associated liver disease.
He received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and his medical degree from the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, his gastroenterology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine, and his transplant hepatology fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research from Weill Cornell in 2026.
Dr. Fomin joined the Weill Cornell faculty in 2026. He is involved in a multidisciplinary clinic that brings hepatology and addiction medicine together to treat alcohol-associated liver disease and alcohol use disorder in a single visit. His research uses national transplant registry data to study how allocation policy and new technologies affect access to and outcomes of liver transplantation. This includes work on machine perfusion of donor livers, living donor liver transplantation, and equity in organ allocation. He is committed to medical education and teaches residents and fellows in hepatology and transplant medicine. He is a member of the Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease Special Interest Group within the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He is also a co-host of the Liver Fellow Network podcast, which seeks to educate medical students and trainees.
