Personal Statement

At WCM, I have found a compassionate, dedicated and humanistic approach led by our physicians and care team members. While multiple myeloma is currently considered to be an incurable blood cancer, significant advances in treatment have shifted the focus toward effective disease management and improving long-term outcomes. The goal is to manage the disease as a chronic condition with a high quality of life and long remissions. At WCM, we are actively pursuing a functional cure for myeloma and we truly believe this has become a reality for some, but still there is more needed to be done. I truly believe that the diagnosis of multiple myeloma never comes with an expiration date and my goal is to offer novel clinical trial options to my patients aiming at improving clinical outcomes by using innovative strategies and new meaningful drugs with acceptable toxicity profiles.

In the arena of amyloidosis, novel amyloid depleters and more clinical trial options with immunotherapy-based approaches and aggressive supportive care strategies are the fundamental components of the battle against this disease. Early recognition and adequate treatment remain the goal when partnering with patients who are dealing with AL amyloidosis.

Additionally, multiple myeloma (MM) and AL Amyloidosis are plasma cell disorders that are typically preceded by the precursor disease denominated Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS). As such, a better understanding of the precursor condition will help us to create better strategies to prevent the development of myeloma and amyloidosis.

My areas of research interest include the potential use of artificial intelligence (AI) and sensitive investigational tools in defining patients who have MGUS that are most at risk to develop MM and AL amyloidosis.
