About Suzanne Black, MSN, FNP-BC
As a nurse practitioner, my approach to wellness is deeply rooted in a holistic perspective that transcends the mere treatment of symptoms. I see each patient as a complex and interconnected being, beyond illness or condition, deserving of comprehensive and compassionate care. With a patient-centered approach, I believe meaningful conversations are the cornerstone of understanding. By delving into the root cause of disease, I strive to empower patients as active partners in their healing journey. This collaborative approach not only enhances the quality of care but also fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility in patients for their well-being and promotes long-term wellness. I am particularly fascinated by the gut-brain axis and the profound impact of lifestyle factors on overall health. Recognizing the significance of mind-body medicine, I integrate holistic practices to address chronic health conditions comprehensively.
Suzanne Black is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Driven by curiosity and an appreciation of the sciences since childhood, Suzanne has taken a unique educational and professional pathway into medicine and wellness. She completed her BA in Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara followed by impactful work in cultural resource management, research and environmental consulting. However, a deep seated desire for meaningful human connection led her to transition to nursing, drawn to its holistic approach to patient care and tenets of health promotion and disease prevention.
After obtaining a BS and MS in Nursing at Columbia University in 2016, where she specialized in Family Health and HIV Medicine, she embarked on a career in primary care at one of the more underserved community health centers in Manhattan. Despite the rewarding nature of her work, she felt compelled to seek a role where she could dedicate more time and resources to optimize patient wellness.
Always eager to expand her professional expertise, she transitioned to a role in colorectal surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, specializing in treatment of GI cancers, inflammatory bowel disease, IBS and pelvic floor dysfunction. Here, she excelled in recognizing the comprehensive needs of her patients, understanding that health optimization extends beyond surgical interventions and requires a multidisciplinary and humanistic approach to wellness and survivorship. Suzanne continues her professional journey with the Integrative Health team and looks forward to collaborating with patients as partners in their care
