Personal Statement

As a general cardiologist, my clinical expertise spans the management of coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, valvular heart disease and congestive heart failure. I take a comprehensive approach to heart care, combining cutting-edge cardiovascular imaging and diagnostics with clinical experience to diagnose and manage complex cardiovascular conditions. My goal is to provide high-quality, patient-centered care that is tailored to each individual's unique needs and health goals. I believe that effective care begins with strong communication, and I strive to ensure that my patients feel informed, supported, and empowered to make decisions about their heart health. Whether managing chronic conditions or guiding patients through new diagnoses, I am committed to building long-term partnerships grounded in trust, compassion, and clinical excellence.

Biographical Info

Dr. Robert S. Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Zhang was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in Shanghai, China. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis before earning his medical degree from Albany Medical College, where he graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Zhang then pursued additional advanced training in cardiac imaging at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he specialized in multimodality imaging with a focus on cardiac computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.

Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on acute pulmonary embolism, right ventricular remodeling and valvular heart disease, particularly as it relates to advanced imaging techniques such as cardiac magnetic resonance and cardiac computed tomography. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, including Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and European Heart Journal family of journals. In recognition of his research contributions, he was named Cardiology Research Fellow of the Year during his fellowship.

In addition to his scholarly activities, Dr. Zhang is a dedicated clinician and educator, actively involved in the training of medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition to seeing patients in clinic at the Weill Greenberg Center, Dr. Zhang provides inpatient care in the coronary care unit, cardiac telemetry unit, and consultative cardiology service. He also has additional expertise in echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
