Dr. Ramon E. Gist is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine as well as an Assistant Attending Pediatrician at New York-Presbyterian Phyllis and David Komansky at Weill Cornell Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Dr. Gist serves as Co-Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Gist obtained his bachelor’s in biomedical sciences from The Sophie Davis School for Biomedical Education/The City College of New York and his doctorate in medicine from Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in General Pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. After completing his Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Dr. Gist returned to his East Flatbush roots to begin his career at Downstate Health Sciences University. As the Director of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, he led the transformation of the PICU into a modernized unit and enhanced the educational experiences of residents and medical students. Inspired by his experiences during Hurricane Sandy, he pursued additional fellowship training in disaster medicine. His publications and collaborative work in disaster preparedness have led to national and global teaching opportunities, and invitations to join prominent groups such as the Task Force for Mass Critical Care and the Pediatric Disaster Coalition.

Dr. Gist has demonstrated a deep commitment to education and mentorship, earning recognition for his work with students across the education continuum. He is active in local and national J.E.D.I. initiatives. Always prioritizing community advocacy, Dr. Gist volunteered with and now serves as clinical advisor for the Kings Against Violence Initiative. Dr. Gist also serves as faculty at the Health Alliance for Violence Intervention, where he helps advance national education in violence prevention.
