About Edgar Figueroa, M.D., MPH, FAAFP
I currently devote my full time activities to student administration as the Director of Student Health. In this capacity I provide primary care and occupational health services to the students of the Weill Cornell Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Figueroa obtained his B.A. degree in biology from New York University and his M.D. degree from Weill Cornell Medical College. He subsequently trained in Family Medicine at the New York Presbyterian Hospital - Columbia University Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program where he served as a chief resident. He remained a faculty member of the Columbia University Center for Family Medicine, completing a faculty development fellowship and obtaining an M.P.H. degree in Sociomedical Sciences from the Mailman School of Public Health with a concentration in health promotion and disease prevention. At Columbia University Medical Center he served as an outpatient attending physician, and provided instruction to medical students and family medicine residents in a number of areas including clinical family medicine, cross-cultural care/Latino health, primary care research methods, practice management and resident peer education & evaluation.
Dr. Figueroa returned to WCMC in September 2006 as the Director of Student Health. In this capacity he provides primary care services to, and oversees the health and wellness of, the next generation of Weill Cornell physicians, scientists and physician assistants. His academic areas of interest include clinical preventive services, health promotion program development and evaluation, cross-cultural care, and web-based education, as well as serving as a role model for populations underrepresented in the profession of medicine. He has served as a member of several medical college and hospital committees, including the Committee on Medical School Admissions, the Diversity Committee, and the Emerging Infectious Diseases committee and also served as a medical student faculty advisor. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Figueroa’s practice is limited exclusively to the care of Weill Cornell students.
