Helen Perakis, MD, MHA, FACS is an attending surgeon within the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Her special interests include breast reconstruction, body contouring procedures and complex wound closures, although she does perform the full gamete of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. Prior to joining the staff, she was an attending surgeon in the Department of Surgery at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY where she specialized in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. At Westchester Medical Center, she was the Residency Program Director for their ACGME accredited Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency. Dr. Perakis also served as the Director of Wound Care for Westchester Medical Center’s Outpatient Wound Center. In addition, she served as an assistant professor in Plastic Surgery for New York Medical College.

Dr. Perakis is a Brooklyn native. She completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University where she graduated with distinction, double majoring in Biology and History. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine degree from Boston University’s School of Medicine. She completed an Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Georgia and subsequently a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota. She is board certified in both Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology. She has participated in international medical mission trips to Peru and India. She has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and has presented her research at various national meetings. Dr. Perakis has worked in community hospitals, private practices and other academic medical centers. She previously worked at Saint Francis Medical Center and served as teaching faculty for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Perakis recently completed a Master’s in Health Care Administration from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
