Personal Statement

I have always been fascinated by the complexity of genetics, but my true passion lies in the psychosocial aspects of care. My favorite part of my job is providing empathetic support to patients and families who are navigating genetic conditions and advocating for them during some of their most vulnerable times. 

Biographical Info

Anna Burton, MS, CGC, is a genetic counselor in the Division of Medical Genetics at Weill Cornell Medicine. Ms. Burton received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Denison University and her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the team at Weill Cornell in 2026, she worked as a pediatric genetic counselor at Michigan Medicine and the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein.

Ms. Burton’s clinical focus centers on working with children and adults with a variety of rare genetic conditions, including those with neurodevelopmental and other health concerns. Before pursuing a career in genetic counseling, she worked as an English teacher in South America. She is conversational in Spanish and has a particular interest in working with Spanish-speaking patients. Her graduate research thesis focused on improving the quality of care for patients with limited English proficiency. She also has a passion for teaching, supervising, and mentoring genetic counseling students and other learners interested in genetics.

She is board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the Outreach Committee of the New York State Genetics Task Force.

As experts in their fields, WCM physicians and scientists are sought after by many organizations to consult and educate.
