September 5, 2024
September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month. Learn more about blood cancers on the Cleveland Clinic website. The Cleveland Clinic reports that blood cancers represent about 10% of all cancers diagnosed in the USA each year and an estimated 3% of all cancer-related deaths. City of Hope estimates that 1.6 million people in the USA currently live with leukemia, myeloma, Hodgkin lymphoma or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The good news is that National Cancer Institute data show a steady decline in blood cancer deaths since the early 1990's. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a blood cancer, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society offers resources on helping you to choose a blood cancer specialist.
