About Maya Nauphal, Ph.D.
Maya Nauphal, Ph.D., is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Nauphal earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Boston University. She completed her APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine.
Dr. Nauphal specializes in the assessment and treatment of anxiety, mood, obsessive-compulsive, and trauma-related disorders in adults. She has extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure-based interventions, including Exposure and Response Prevention and Prolonged Exposure. Her clinical work is grounded in trauma-informed and multicultural frameworks that prioritize understanding each patient’s presentation within the context of their social and cultural environments. She integrates expertise in evidence-based treatment with a strong focus on the therapeutic relationship, with the goal of helping patients feel safe, understood and empowered while receiving high-quality care.
Dr. Nauphal's scholarly work focuses on developing brief transdiagnostic interventions to increase access to care and reduce mental health stigma. She is passionate about training future generations of mental health providers and is actively involved in teaching and clinical supervision. An overarching goal across her clinical, research and training work is to dismantle mental health stigma – both within mental health fields and in the broader public.
