About Jason Matakas, MD
Jason Matakas, M.D. is a radiologist specializing in Musculoskeletal Imaging. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Assistant Attending Radiologist at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital–Weill Cornell Campus.
Dr. Matakas graduated from Elizabethtown College in 2009, where he earned a B.S. (summa cum laude) in Biotechnology with a minor in Biochemistry. He then completed a M.S. in Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology at Michigan State University in 2011. He received his M.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2019.
Following an internship at NYU Long Island School of Medicine from 2019 to 2020, Dr. Matakas completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Montefiore Medical Center from 2020 to 2024, where he served as chief resident during his final year. He then completed a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Imaging at Yale New Haven Hospital from 2024 to 2025. Dr. Matakas joined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine in August 2025 as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology.
Dr. Matakas has presented nationally and internationally on topics including musculoskeletal MRI, spectral CT, and advanced cartilage imaging, with work featured at the Radiological Society of North America, Society of Skeletal Radiology, and International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and educational exhibits.
His academic interests include image-guided procedures, musculoskeletal and emergency imaging and medical education.
Dr. Matakas is a member of several radiologic societies, including:
