Policies

General Use Policies

  • The PRC is open to patients, families, caregivers, and prospective patients seeking health information.
  • Professional staff and volunteers are available to assist with locating credible health resources.
  • Assistance is also available via email (mmprc@med.cornell.edu) and phone (646-962-5303).

Conduct and Behavior

Visitors must maintain a respectful and safe environment. The following are not permitted:

  • Eating or drinking, except from non-spillable cups
  • Use or possession of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
  • Improper attire (e.g., no shoes or no shirt)
  • Unhygienic behavior, including offensive odor
  • Bringing animals (except service animals)
  • Solicitation of any kind
  • Leaving children unattended
  • Theft, vandalism, or misuse of property
  • Physical violence or possession of weapons
  • Harassment or verbal abuse of staff or other users
  • Disruptive behavior (e.g., loud talking, playing audio others can hear)
  • Refusal to follow staff instructions or leave at closing time
  • Being present in the PRC when it is closed

Technology Use 

Use of computers, internet, and printers is a privilege and must follow these rules:

  • Access: First-come, first-served basis; 30-minute session limit; must show a current picture ID
  • Printing: Limited to 10 pages per user
  • Restrictions:
    • No food or drink at computer stations
    • No commercial use, gambling, lobbying, or spam
    • No viewing or distributing explicit, obscene, or pornographic content
    • No downloading music or unauthorized software
    • No hacking or unauthorized access
    • No impersonation or misrepresentation or malicious behavior     
  • Closing Time: All computers shut down at 4:00 p.m.

Internet Use Guidelines

  • Users are responsible for evaluating online content and protecting personal information.
  • Special software has been installed on each public computer that allows for remote monitoring of computer use. PRC staff can view screen shots, end sessions, and send messages reminding users of appropriate use.
  • Sensitive transactions that require entering Social Security information, payment data, and other personal information should not be conducted on PRC public computers.
  • Parents/guardians must supervise minors' internet use.
  • Electronic files are not confidential and may be disclosed as required by law.
  • The PRC is not liable for damages resulting from internet use.
