Gwendolyn Reeve, D.M.D., FACS serves as the Program Director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency. She is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Attending Surgeon at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Reeve is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, specializing in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a focus on facial trauma surgery, corrective jaw procedures and the treatment of skeletal facial deformity, surgical treatment of sleep apnea, TMJ Surgery, and benign pathology. She also performs office-based dental surgery procedures under IV sedation such as biopsies, wisdom teeth extraction, and dental implants.
Dr. Reeve completed her residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. She also completed a residency in general dentistry at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Reeve is involved in several research endeavors. She developed and serves as the primary investigator for 3 different clinical trials. In 2018, she started a multicenter clinical trial investigating the use of Botox for treatment of myofascial pain disorder of the facial muscles. In 2020, she started a clinical trial investigating the use of cannabinoids (CBD) for treatment of TMJ pain and facial pain. In 2021, she started a clinical trial investigating the use of an infrared device to detect inflammatory, premalignant and malignant oral lesions. In addition to her clinical trials, she serves as the primary investigator to the following protocols: "Characterizing Stem Cells from Human TMJ Specimens Surgically Extracted for Other Medical Reasons," “Identifying Synovial Biomarkers to Predict Clinical Outcomes of TMJ Arthroscopy,” and “The Study of Cadaveric TMJ Tissues.” Additionally, she collaborates with the Department of Genetic Medicine and is helping to investigate the oral biology of e-cigarette smokers. She works with the ENT department to investigate the trends of facial trauma at NYP. She also works with the Neuroradiology division to investigate the radiographic appearance of complications in orthognathic surgery.
Dr. Reeve is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and an active member in the prestigious American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and abstracts. She is a journal reviewer for numerous scientific journals.
She has also been honored with awards such as the Attending of the Year Award in 2018, Osteoscience Scholarship Award to the AAOMS Clinical Trials Methods Course, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon’s Award, 1st Place at the Medical University of South Carolina Research Table Clinics, and the Outstanding Research Award Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting Table Clinics.

Dr. Reeve is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, specializing in the full scope of Adult and Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a focus on facial trauma surgery, corrective jaw procedures and the treatment of skeletal facial deformity, surgical treatment of sleep apnea, TMJ Surgery, and benign pathology. She also works with the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery to investigate the development of a patient specific implant fabrication for craniofacial reconstruction and cosmetic enhancement.
Dr. Reeve is the current treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and an active member in the prestigious American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She was chosen to be an oral board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She was also chosen to be on the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’s Committee on Education and Training. She also serves as a site examiner for the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Education. Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and abstracts. She is a journal reviewer for numerous scientific journals. In 2022, she was one of 6 physicians chosen to receive direct mentorship from Weill Cornell Faculty and NYP leaders in the Weill Cornell Healthcare Leadership Fellowship. She attended several leadership courses as part of Harvard’s Executive education program.
She has also been honored with awards such as the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’s Faculty Educator Development Award, Certificate of Merit by the Committee of the American Society of Neuroradiology, Attending of the Year Award, Osteoscience Scholarship Award to the AAOMS Clinical Trials Methods Course, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon’s Award, 1st Place at the Medical University of South Carolina Research Table Clinics, and the Outstanding Research Award Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting Table Clinics.
