Personal Statement

Today’s society is structured around productivity, resulting in schedules that neglect our biological mandate for adequate sleep. Many people, myself included, rely on caffeine, the most widely consumed drug in the world, to power us through the days. However, this is not a sustainable fix to the systemic issue of sleep neglect. Without quality sleep, we do not fully recover from our daily grind. Our focus dulls and simple tasks become complicated. With increasing sleep debt, we also magnify our risk of developing chronic conditions such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and death. As a family medicine trained sleep specialist, I bring a holistic, compassionate approach to patient care, focusing on improving sleep health in sustainable ways to better the overall health of my patients.
