Personal Statement

Sean Kerrigan, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist in the inpatient eating disorders program at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health. He is Board-certified in General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with an interest in treating patients of all ages, from infancy to adulthood, through a developmental perspective. Dr. Kerrigan’s areas of clinical focus include eating disorders, anxiety disorders, pediatric/adult ADHD, mood disorders, and substance abuse. He currently provides diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, and treatment with medication in his faculty practice.

Biographical Info

Dr. Kerrigan received his medical degree at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and was awarded both the Board of Supervisors Scholarship and the Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship for academic achievement. After discovering a passion for Mental Health, he completed his Psychiatry Internship and Residency at Harvard Medical School, training at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Massachusetts Mental Health Center and Children’s Hospital Boston. He then went on to complete a two-year fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Stanford Hospital and Lucille-Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, CA, where he practiced in clinics focused on anxiety and eating disorders research. He has further specialty experience in pediatric psychopharmacology, Family-Based/Maudsley approaches to the treatment of anorexia nervosa, and Child-Directed Play Therapy for young children. Prior to joining the faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College, he also served as the Medical Director for the child and adolescent inpatient psychiatry unit at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, TX. In addition to his clinical and administrative roles, Dr. Kerrigan enjoys the opportunity to teach medical students and supervise psychiatry residents in training through Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical College. He is a published author and has research interests ranging from the treatment of eating disorders to the evolving interplay between social technology and identity development in youth.
