Dr. Robert Young has contributed to assessment methodology in bipolar disorder. His longstanding research interest is in optimizing the pharmacotherapeutic management of elders with severe mood disorders. He has received consistent research support from the National Institutes of Health. Currently he is Principal Investigator of "Geri-BD", a multi-center study of the treatment of geriatric patients with bipolar disorders.

Dr. Young is actively involved in teaching medical students, psychiatry residents, and postgraduate fellows in geriatric psychiatry, and in mentoring young investigators in geropsychiatry.
