Personal Statement

Thank you for considering me and Weill Cornell Medical Center Ophthalmology for your eye care. I specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of pediatric and adult retinal diseases, including retinal detachment, diabetic retinal disease, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, macular pucker and epiretinal membrane, macular hole, and others. While I am actively involved in retina research and education, my number one priority is to provide excellent, up-to-date, compassionate care for my patients. I am committed to taking the time to help you understand your condition and your treatment options to together generate a management strategy that incorporates both the most advanced medicine and your personal treatment goals.  It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to care for your eyes and your vision.

Biography

Mrinali Patel Gupta, MD is a board-certified retina specialist and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Gupta specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of vitreoretinal diseases, including conditions such as retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and macular diseases, amongst others.  

Dr. Gupta graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Duke University. She received her M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine, where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha academic honor society and a recipient of the E. Arthur Palumbo Duke Medical School full-tuition academic merit scholarship in 2008. During medical school, she was also a recipient of the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute - National Institutes of Health Research Fellowship, through which she spent one year conducting research studies in age-related macular degeneration at the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health.  

Dr. Gupta then completed her Internship Training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She completed Residency Training in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School / Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, followed by Fellowship Training in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. During her fellowship, Dr. Gupta was the recipient of the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship and the prestigious Ronald G. Michels Fellowship Foundation Award, given to the most outstanding retina fellows in the country. She has been selected as a “Rising Star” in Ophthalmology by Super Doctors.

Dr. Gupta is actively engaged in clinical, translational, and basic science research in retinal diseases. She hold a patents in retina and has published over 50 peer-reviewed research articles.  She has authored several textbook chapters and has presented her research at national and international meetings. Dr. Gupta serves as scientific reviewer to several major ophthalmology journals.  She has leadership roles in several national professional societies including serving on the Executive Committee and Education Committees of the Vit-Buckle Society and on the Education and Training Committee of the American Society of Retina Specialists.  Dr. Gupta is also actively involved in resident and fellow education and serves as Program Director for the Weill Cornell Medical College Medical Retina Fellowship.

Dr. Gupta sees patient both at the main Weill Cornell Medical College/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital campus (1305 York Avenue) as well as the Lower Manhattan office (156 William Street) and is currently accepting new patients.
