Personal Statement

I am a medical oncologist who specializes in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. I am committed to provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients with all stages of breast cancer. At Weill Cornell Medical College, I am fortunate to be part of a multidisciplinary team of experts who prioritize individualized care. As a clinical researcher, I am dedicated to develop new treatments for breast cancer, and also have a special interest in patient safety.

Leticia Varella is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. She specializes in the treatment of breast cancer. She was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she completed a training in Medical Oncology. Subsequently, she received training in laboratory immunology and experimental therapeutics at the Cleveland Clinic. After a year of Chief Residency at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she completed her fellowship in Hematology & Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. Her research focus is on clinical trials involving the development of novel therapeutic approaches in early and advanced breast cancer. She has a special interest in prevention of breast cancer. She also has a background in safety and quality improvement for patients with solid malignancies. Dr. Varella teaches medical students and fellows at the NewYork- Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medicine.
