Laura Gonzalez-Conty, M.D. was born in San Juan and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She attended the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus in San Juan, graduating Magna Cum Laude in BSM in Biology. She completed her medical education at the Ponce Health Sciences University. While in medical school she participated in health disparities research with Dr. Glorisa Canino, looking at different benefits between face-to-face and telephone CBT for the treatment of depression in Latino populations. She trained in general psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. After completing her PGY3 year, she joined the NYP Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program associated with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill Cornell Medical College. In her second year of child and adolescent psychiatry training Dr. Gonzalez-Conty helped organize a relief mission following the devastation of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. She subsequently created a non-profit program, Sanando Puerto Rico (Healing Puerto Rico), to bring volunteers within the medical field to provide relief to remote communities in the Island. During her second year of training she also ran parent-child groups in a Headstart program in Washington Heights through CARING at Columbia Headstart with Dr. Ian Canino and Dr. William Wu. Currently she will complete the Sackler-Infant Psychiatry fellowship and join the Faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College as an Instructor in Psychiatry.
