Personal Statement

Dr. Kimberly Resnick is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine, and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. As an inpatient attending, Dr. Resnick supervises residents treating patients and provides acute, evidence-based treatment to adults suffering from significant mental illness. In addition to her academic and hospital responsibilities, Dr. Resnick maintains an active faculty practice in psychiatry and psychotherapy and treats a variety of conditions using an individualized approach that integrates psychotherapy with psychopharmacology as needed.

Biography

Dr. Resnick attended Yale University, where she graduated magna cum laude with distinction in the major and was inducted into Psi Chi National Honor Society for psychology. Following her undergraduate studies, she received her M.D. degree at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She completed her residency in Adult Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, while simultaneously pursuing a fellowship in psychoanalytic training at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. During her training, Dr. Resnick received the Outstanding Junior Attending Award from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and The University of Pennsylvania for “Compassionate Outstanding Clinical Care of Patients and Exemplary Teaching of Medical Students and Trainees.” Following her residency, Dr. Resnick served as Medical Director for Outreach Substance Abuse Services in Greenpoint, New York, and completed a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry (Psychiatry and the Law) at the Columbia University College of Physicians/Weill Cornell School of Medicine joint training program. She currently serves on the Judicial Action Committee for the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Dynamic Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis. 

In addition to her clinical and hospital responsibilities, Dr. Resnick is involved in medical student education, and supervises psychiatric residents and forensic fellows in training. Dr. Resnick currently welcomes new patients and is available for diagnostic consultations, medication management, psychotherapy and combined treatment. She treats patients with a broad variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety and adjustment problems.
