About
Personal Statement
Throughout my career, I have had the wonderful opportunity to "stand on the shoulders of two giants". While under the mentorship of Dr. Rafael Fonseca at Mayo Clinic, I realized that only through research and advancing science will we be able to significantly move the field forward and positively impact the lives of our patients. It is thanks to Dr. Fonseca’s mentoring and contagious passion that I first became interested in doing research on plasma cell disorders, and since then I have dedicated all my effort to improving the lives of patients with multiple myeloma and other hematologic malignancies. I continue to follow in his footsteps by developing and incorporating into our clinical trial portfolio the latest medical breakthroughs so that patients may benefit from treatments that are not available elsewhere.
During my hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Weill Cornell, I had the honor of working with Dr. Ruben Niesvizky, the Director of the Weill Cornell Myeloma Center, who has been a role model in the way he cares for his patients with the utmost commitment, compassion, and empathy. These are values that I hold dear every time I see a patient and as I continue to strive to eliminate any barriers patients may encounter while seeking the best care; as William Mayo eloquently said, the best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered.

Biography
Jorge Monge, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine and Assistant Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Monge received his M.D. from Anahuac University in Mexico City, Mexico. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami, and a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College. Prior to his clinical training, Dr. Monge completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Mayo Clinic under the guidance of Dr. Rafael Fonseca. During this Research Fellowship, Dr. Monge focused on describing the genomic landscape of high-risk multiple myeloma using targeted DNA sequencing as well as defining the role of calcium isotopic composition on multiple myeloma-induced bone disease and overall disease activity.
Dr. Monge’s current research focuses on 1) the development of new therapies for plasma cell disorders, including multiple myeloma; 2) harnessing genomic and epigenomic tools to improve the accuracy of diagnosis, prediction of treatment response and overall prognosis of plasma cell disorders; and 3) reducing outcome disparities in patients with hematologic malignancies by addressing barriers to accessing specialized hematologic care and increasing the representation of ethnic and racial minority groups in clinical trials.
