Dr. Janet Chen is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She serves as the Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Ambulatory Services at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
She also dedicates her time towards developing a collaborative relationship between Weill Cornell Pediatrics and the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In this role, she educates and trains pediatrics residents and child psychiatry fellows on the integrative care model and provides in person and phone consultation to pediatricians nationwide to help with management of behavioral health concerns.
She has presented on collaborative care and minority mental health stigma at national child psychiatry conferences such as the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and a Columbia University panel.
In addition to her academic responsibilities, she maintains an active faculty practice treating children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of conditions. Dr. Chen utilizes an integrated approach that incorporates psychotherapy and/or psychopharmacology, as best suited for the patient. Dr. Chen is currently accepting new patients into her practice. She is available for consultations, individual and family therapy, as well as medication evaluations and management.
Dr. Chen was raised in Texas and graduated from Rice University with a B.A. in Computational and Applied Mathematics. She received her M.D. degree from UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. She trained in adult psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of residency. Following her residency, Dr. Chen completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital's combined program of Columbia and Cornell Universities.
Dr. Chen was selected for the Cornell LAMP (Leaders in Academic Medicine Program) and completed the program in 2019. She is a call leader for REACH (The Resource for Advancing Children’s Health Institute). She is board certified in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
