Personal Statement

Dr. Janet Chen is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is the Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinics at New York Presbyterian Hospital Payne Whitney Clinic.  Dr. Chen supervises child psychiatry fellows on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consultation and Liaison Service and both child psychiatry fellows and adult psychiatry residents in the Child and Adolescent Outpatient Department. In addition to her academic responsibilities, she maintains an active faculty practice treating children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of conditions. Dr. Chen utilizes an integrated approach that incorporates psychotherapy and/or psychopharmacology, as best suited for the patient. 

Dr. Chen is currently accepting new patients into her practice.  She is available for consultations, individual and family therapy, as well as medication evaluations and management. 


Dr. Chen was raised in Texas and graduated from Rice University with a B.A. in Computational and Applied Mathematics. She received her M.D. degree from UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. She trained in adult psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of residency. Following her residency, Dr. Chen completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital's combined program of Columbia and Cornell Universities.  She is board certified in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
