Personal Statement

As a vascular specialist, my objective is to offer patients with vascular disease comprehensive, patient-centered care. I treat patients with a variety of conditions including aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease, carotid artery disease, as well as many other disorders of the circulation affecting the arteries and veins.

As a specialist in traditional surgery as well as the latest minimally invasive procedures, I am able to individualize treatment recommendations, and offer patients the therapeutic approach most likely to improve their quality of life.

Biography

 

Andrew J. Meltzer, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and an Assistant Professor of Surgery in Healthcare Policy and Research at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Meltzer is an Assistant Attending Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.  He also holds academic and clinical appointments at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Meltzer is a founder and co-director of the Center for Effectiveness and Surgical Outcomes Research (CESOR), a Department of Surgery program created to advance the field of surgical outcomes research.

Board-certified in both Surgery and Vascular Surgery, Dr. Meltzer's practice encompasses the full spectrum of vascular disease, including complex arterial and venous problems. He has significant expertise in the most advanced minimally invasive and endovascular procedures. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Yale University. He earned his Medical Degree, magna cum laude, from Jefferson Medical College, where he was President of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Dr. Meltzer completed his internship and residency in surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. His subsequent training includes a fellowship in the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School Transplantation Biology Research Center, as well as fellowship training in Vascular Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College/Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery with additional certification in vascular surgery.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Widely published in peer-reviewed journals and the author of numerous book chapters, Dr. Meltzer's research efforts focus on surgical outcomes and comparative effectiveness in vascular surgery. He has been awarded research grants from the institution, professional societies, New York State, and the federal government.

Dr. Meltzer is a member of many professional surgical societies, and serves in a leadership role as a committee member in the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society.

Dr. Meltzer has earned many honors including research awards from the Eastern Vascular Society, Association for Academic Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons.  In 2016, he was awarded a special certificate of appreciation from the NYPD Detectives' Endowment Association.
