Public health is the discipline devoted to the study of health and disease in populations. Its goal is to improve the health status and well being of individuals and groups. In addition to designing and implementing preventive programs, this goal is accomplished by providing the information, training, and skills necessary to improve the effectiveness and delivery of medical care. Contribution to new knowledge is achieved through research and the application of population and social sciences to the health problems of individuals and populations. It is our mission to improve health care and strengthen medical education by bringing public health disciplines into Weill Cornell Physicians' patient care, research, and teaching efforts.
