Mission & History
The Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center opened February 2007, through generous donations from the Arthur and Myra Mahon Foundation, the Adrian and Jessie Archbold Charitable Trust, and the Dean's Challenge matching funds. The Center is named after Myra Mahon (1937-2011). Mrs. Mahon was a licensed clinical social worker. She believed that "an informed patient is almost always a healthier patient with a better chance for a favorable outcome." She understood that the "fear and mystery of the unknown often makes being a patient frightening and very difficult. Information is the key to providing comfort and, many times, acceptance of treatment."
The Center's mission is to serve as a health information resource center for patients and families to encourage and enable them to make informed decisions about their healthcare.
Conveniently located in the Weill Greenberg Center (1305 York Ave at E. 70th St.), this beautifully designed space represents Weill Cornell Medical Center's commitment to patient-centered care.

SuMin is a Library and Information Science graduate student at Pratt Institute focusing on medical librarianship. She first started as an intern at Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center (PRC) and learned various ways to assist patients, families, and caregivers make informed decisions about their healthcare. As a Patient Resource Assistant, she provides authoritative and up-to-date health information to patrons of the PRC. She is a member of Medical Library Association and is available Monday-Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

The Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center is staffed by a professional medical librarian who connect patients, family members, caregivers, and prospective patients to quality health information resources.
We help you find current, credible health information that is understandable so that you can make informed decisions about your healthcare. If you are unable to visit the Patient Resource Center, we respond to questions by email, telephone, and in person at a patient's hospital room.
At the Patient Resource Center, we provide:
- A library with a wide selection of health brochures, pamphlets, books and online resources,
- Computers and wireless Internet access, and
- Comfortable lounge areas to wait between office visits

Rules for User Conduct
As part of its mission, the Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center wishes to maintain a safe and comfortable environment conducive to study and the use of health information resources. Visitors are expected to show consideration for other users and for members of the PRC staff.
The following activities are not allowed in the PRC:
- Eating/bringing in food and/or drinking, except from non-spillable cups
- Using or possessing drugs or alcohol, or smoking/chewing tobacco
- Improper dress; e.g., no shoes, no shirt
- Bringing animals into the PRC, except those needed to assist persons with disabilities
- Solicitations of any kind
- Leaving a child alone in the PRC without adult supervision
- Theft and/or misappropriation of PRC or another user's property, or failing to report and surrender any lost items or money found on PRC premises to staff or Security
- Physical violence and/or carrying a weapon into the PRC
- Vandalism; abuse or misuse of PRC equipment or property
- Refusing to follow the PRC's Computer, Internet Access & Printer Use Policies
- Talking loudly, making noise, or engaging in other disruptive behavior; playing of audiovisual equipment that others can hear
- Interfering with another person's use of the PRC, such as harassment or verbal abuse of other PRC users
- Interfering with PRC staff's performance of their duties, such as harassment or verbal abuse of staff members
- Refusing to discontinue use of equipment, such as computers, printers or telephone room, after closing announcements; or refusing to leave the premises at closing time
Computer, Internet Access & Printer Use Policies
The Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center's computers, Internet access, and public printer are provided as a free service to patients and visitors. To ensure equal access, we ask you to abide by the following:
- NO FOOD OR DRINK AT THE COMPUTERS
- Computer time limited to 30 minutes per session when others are waiting. Visitors looking for online health information will be given priority.
- PRINTING LIMITED TO 10 PAGES
- Use discretion and avoid sensitive sites.
- These computers may not be used for commercial purposes, lobbying, gambling, harassment of others, spam e-mails (unsolicited mass e-mails), viewing explicit photos/videos, or downloading music.
- All computers are turned off 10-minutes before closing time, at 4:50 PM.
