Virginia Lehmann Susman, M.D.

Virginia L. Susman, MD completed her B.A. at Fordham University, received her M.D. at University of Rochester School of Medicine, and completed her residency in Psychiatry at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She served as Chief Resident in her final year.

After working as an assistant director of the psychiatric clinic and an inpatient unit chief at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center for 3 years, she became a unit chief at New York Hospital, in White Plains, New York in 1981. Among her positions at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Payne Whitney Westchester, she was Site Director for Medical Student Education, Director of Residency Education, Medical Director of the Evaluation Center, and the Clinical Director of the Acute Services Division. She has been the Associate Medical Director and Site Director of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Payne Whitney Westchester since 1998.

After early work with John Oldham and Armand Loranger on personality disorders, her research and writings have mainly focused on neuroleptic malignant syndrome, including a book co-authored with Gerard Addonizio, M.D. published in 1991. She has also presented on a variety of women's mental health issues such as postpartum depression and psychosis and issues facing professional women regarding parenting and career trajectory. She currently serves as a member of the Community Services Board, an advisory board to the Westchester County Executive.
